Problem
CONGESTION

Moraga Road is frequently backed up towards Rheem. The CORE reason for the congestion are
PEDS crossing Moraga Rd. at Brook St. every 90 seconds at the walk signal during the "shared commute" which are the hours students cross to the schools coinciding with drivers commute to the freeway --- 7:45am - 8:35am and 2:15pm - 3:45pm. Pets cross. Delays ensue. Period.

COMMUTE
Drivers are commuting to the freeway while parents are driving students to and from 3 schools (Stanley Middle school, Lafayette Elementary School, Campolindo High School). They are commuting on foot, bike, and car at the same hour.
There is driver frustration. With that can come danger. Accidents have and continue to happen.

DRIVERS

DRIVERS
There is a safety risk for all as drivers frustration and the varied number of distractions unfolds while being stuck in delays day after day. Give a driver a footbridge to drive under and their commute time will drop considerably.

PEDESTRIANS
Brook St.is a main walking artery to the schools. Parents are so concerned with their children crossing Moraga Rd. (even with a traffic guard) that they are driving them to school just a few blocks away— adding to the already congested school vicinities. Give the students a safe path. Build a footbridge.

CITY PROPOSALS
The City of Lafayette has asked for ideas on how to solve this long-standing congestion problem. All strategies on the table at this point for this vicinity DO NOT address congestion or ped safety issues. A footbridge DOES. Let's get this dream proposal back on the list of strategies before a nightmare ensues.
